New rules were introduced in April to give landlords more flexibility when it comes to the timing of annual gas safety checks.

The new rules mean that landlords can carry out the annual gas safety check in the two months BEFORE the due date and they still retain the existing expiry date.

This means landlords won’t be penalised for sorting out inspections sooner rather than later, as well as giving greater flexibility with dates if inspectors are in high demand, or if they are struggling to get access to the property – without shortening the overall inspection period.

For example, if your annual gas safety check is due on 31 July, the check could be carried out at any time in June or July and still retain the 31 July renewal date for the following year.
